## Overview

Ticker is a terminal application that displays live price quotes for stocks, crypto, and futures contracts and tracks the value of your positions. Run it with a watchlist on the command line (`ticker -w NET,AAPL,TSLA`) or define watchlists and holdings in a `~/.ticker.yaml` file. Quotes refresh every 5 seconds by default, configurable with `--interval`, and pre- and post-market quotes are supported.

Positions are defined as cost basis lots with `symbol`, `quantity`, `unit_cost`, and an optional `fixed_cost` such as a brokerage commission. Multiple lots can be entered for the same symbol, and negative quantities represent closed or short positions. Display flags such as `--show-summary`, `--show-positions`, `--show-fundamentals`, `--show-tags`, and `--show-separator` add total day change, weight, average cost, open/previous close/day range, and exchange or currency details. Sorting can be set to change percent, `alpha`, `value`, or `user` order.

Market data comes from Yahoo Finance by default. Symbol suffixes select other sources: `.CB` for Coinbase, including futures contracts, and `.X` for ticker's shorthand crypto symbols such as `SOL.X`. Other features include named groups of watchlists and lots that you cycle through with TAB and SHIFT+TAB, conversion to a local currency via ISO 4217 codes, handling of minor-unit quotes such as GBp, custom hex color schemes, and a local cache to speed up startup. `ticker print` outputs positions as JSON or CSV (`--format=csv`) for scripting.

It suits developers and investors who want to monitor markets and portfolio value without leaving the terminal. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, and is also available as a Docker image.
