## Overview

wttr.in is a weather forecast service built for console HTTP clients. You query it with curl, httpie, or wget (or Invoke-RestMethod in PowerShell), and it returns a forecast rendered as ANSI sequences for terminals. Browsers get HTML, and graphical viewers get PNG. The format is chosen from the User-Agent string. JSON, plain text (`?T`), and Prometheus metrics are also available for scripts and APIs. It began as a wrapper around wego.

Locations go in the URL path: city names (`curl wttr.in/London`), 3-letter airport codes (`/muc`), landmarks or mountains (`/Eiffel+Tower`, `/Kilimanjaro`), IP addresses, or domain names prefixed with `@` (`/@github.com`). If you give no location, it uses your IP address to guess one. Units are set with `?u` (USCS), `?m` (metric), or `?M` (metric with wind in m/s). Options can be combined, as in `?m2&lang=nl`. PNG output is requested by appending `.png`. It supports transparency options, so the image can be composited onto photos with ImageMagick.

The `format` parameter gives one-line output. It has presets 1 to 4 and a custom `%`-notation with codes for condition, temperature, feels-like, humidity, wind, precipitation, pressure, UV index, moon phase, and sunrise and sunset. Several locations can be queried at once. This suits status bars, and the README documents integrations for tmux (with `status-interval`), WeeChat, and conky, plus an embeddable web widget through wttr-switcher. The README also lists wttr.is as a drop-in fallback domain served from the same backend. Its audience is developers and sysadmins who want weather in a shell, script, status line, or dashboard.
