Portable console emulator for Windows with Unix tools
Cmder is a Windows terminal emulator package born out of frustration with the lack of usable console options on Windows. Built on top of ConEmu, it provides a significant configuration overhaul with a beautiful Monokai color scheme, enhanced command-line editing through Clink, and a custom prompt layout. The terminal comes in two editions: a mini version and a full version that includes a pre-installed bash environment via git-for-windows.
What sets Cmder apart is its emphasis on portability and self-containment. It's designed to run entirely from a USB stick or cloud storage without external dependencies, making it perfect for developers who need a consistent terminal environment across different machines. The package includes common Unix tools like wget, curl, and git, allowing users to carry their entire console toolkit wherever they go.
Cmder excels at providing multiple shell environments within a single tabbed interface, supporting CMD, PowerShell, and Bash (including admin variants). It features intelligent context menu integration, allowing users to open Cmder directly in any folder from Windows Explorer. The terminal is particularly appealing to Windows developers who want a Unix-like experience without the complexity of WSL setup, while still maintaining compatibility with Windows-native tools and workflows.
