NeoMutt

Terminal email client that collects community patches against Mutt, with Notmuch, NNTP, sidebar, compressed folders and header cache options.

NeoMutt is a terminal-based email client built as a fork of Mutt. The project gathers the many patches written against Mutt, fixes them up, documents them, and maintains them in one codebase. It was started by Richard Russon (@FlatCap), and it is released under GPL v2+.

The README lists a set of added features. For mailbox handling, these include a Sidebar panel listing mailboxes, Notmuch search integration, custom mailbox tags (Notmuch tags and IMAP keywords), compressed folders, an NNTP backend for Usenet servers, a Trash Folder option, and Quasi-Delete for hiding emails without deleting them. Composing features include a message preview in the Compose dialog, a Forgotten Attachment alert, Multiple FCC, Compose to Sender, and Encrypt-to-Self. Command-line crypto (-C) enables message security in modes that don't enable it by default.

Configuration and theming options include Index Color and Status Color rules, Attach Headers Color, conditional dates, Ifdef conditional config, nested conditions in format strings, global hooks, and an Account Command that fetches credentials from an external command. Performance-related items include LMDB as a header cache backend, header cache compression, and Fmemopen, which replaces some temporary files with memory buffers. The repository also contains contributed scripts, such as Vi-keys config, a Vim syntax file, and Keybase integration. It suits users who read and manage email in a terminal, especially existing Mutt users.
