yt-dlp
Command-line audio/video downloader supporting thousands of sites, forked from youtube-dl and youtube-dlc, with format selection, post-processing and plugins.
yt-dlp is a command-line audio and video downloader that supports thousands of sites (listed in supportedsites.md). It is a fork of youtube-dl, based on the now inactive youtube-dlc. It is written in Python and can be run as a standalone binary or installed from PyPI.
The option set covers network settings, geo-restriction handling, video selection, download behavior, filesystem options, thumbnails, subtitles, authentication, and verbosity/simulation. Further sections document format selection (with filtering and sorting), output templates, metadata modification, post-processing, SponsorBlock options, and per-extractor arguments. Configuration can be kept in config files, and credentials can be supplied through netrc.
yt-dlp can be extended with plugins and embedded in other Python programs. Release binaries are provided for Windows (x64, x86, ARM64), macOS, and Linux (glibc and musl; x86_64, aarch64, armv7l), plus a platform-independent zipimport binary that needs Python. Binaries can self-update with yt-dlp -U across stable, nightly and master channels. Release files are accompanied by GPG-signed checksums. It is aimed at developers, archivists and anyone who downloads media from the command line or scripts it.
