Kilo Code

Open source AI coding agent for VS Code, JetBrains, and the terminal, with 500+ selectable models at provider pricing and an autonomous mode for CI/CD.

install

Kilo Code is an open source AI coding agent that runs in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, a CLI (kilo), and a web-based Cloud Agent. It generates and edits code across multiple files from natural language prompts. It can also run terminal commands, control a browser, and review and correct its own work. The CLI is a fork of OpenCode, adapted to work with the Kilo platform.

The agent has built-in modes you switch between per task: Code (the default, implements and edits code), Plan (designs architecture and writes implementation plans before any code is written), Ask (answers questions about the codebase without touching files), and Debug (troubleshoots and traces issues). You can also define custom agents. The Kilo Marketplace lets you install agents, skills, MCP servers, and plugins. In the editor, inline autocomplete shows ghost-text suggestions that you accept with tab.

Kilo gives access to 500+ models, and you can switch between them mid-task. It bills at the model provider's rate with no markup, and no API keys are needed to start. For automation, kilo run --auto "run tests and fix any failures" runs without prompts and auto-approves permissions unless a rule explicitly denies an action, so it should only be used in trusted environments such as CI/CD pipelines. Kilo can also set up automated AI code reviews on pull requests. It is aimed at developers who want one agent across their IDE, terminal, and CI. The project is MIT licensed.
