Powerlevel10k

Zsh prompt theme with an interactive configuration wizard, instant prompt at shell startup, Git status segments, and Powerlevel9k config compatibility.

Powerlevel10k is a theme for Zsh that renders the shell prompt. Running p10k configure starts a built-in configuration wizard that writes ~/.p10k.zsh, a commented file where further customization is done. Prompt styles include a Pure-compatible style, and the recommended Meslo Nerd Font patched for Powerlevel10k unlocks all styles. The README states the project has very limited support, with no new features planned and most bugs unlikely to be fixed.

The prompt is built to avoid lag. Segments such as Git status, timewarrior tracking, and the pyenv Python version update on the very next prompt after a command like touch x y or echo 3.7.3 >.python-version. The README says other themes either lag or show stale data and refresh it later. Instant Prompt, enabled through p10k configure or manually, prints the prompt immediately at Zsh startup so you can type while slow plugins such as pyenv or nvm are still loading.

Other documented features include Show on Command, which displays segments only when the command being typed uses certain tools (for example POWERLEVEL9K_KUBECONTEXT_SHOW_ON_COMMAND='kubectl|helm|kubens'). Transient Prompt trims earlier prompts after a command is accepted, which makes copying commands from scrollback easier. The current directory segment truncates to the shortest unique prefix and highlights important segments such as Git repository roots. Powerlevel10k also recognizes all Powerlevel9k POWERLEVEL9K configuration parameters, so existing configs can migrate.

It is aimed at Zsh users who want a customizable, fast prompt with Git, Kubernetes, and cloud context information, including people migrating from Powerlevel9k or Pure.
